Pressure on healthcare keeps rising. Rehab programmes take a long time, professionals have too little time and patients often lack the motivation to keep up their exercises. That is exactly where a new movement is emerging: digital, gamified home rehab.
One of the most promising initiatives is GO HOME, an innovation project co-funded by the OPZUID 2021–2027 scheme: the European innovation programme for the southern Netherlands, which promotes groundbreaking technology and collaboration. Het Verbeterpunt is one of the project partners.
A new way to rehabilitate: more fun, smarter and more effective
The GO HOME consortium is building a complete system for home rehab after hip or knee surgery. Instead of printed exercise sheets or short check-ins at the practice, you recover at home with:
- gamified exercises with SmartClips, VR or the SmartBike;
- smart sensors that measure your movement, posture and progress;
- a companion Patient Journey App that guides you and gives feedback;
- remote monitoring by your care professional, even between appointments.
The goal is clear:
- Higher adherence to therapy
- Faster recovery
- More motivation and independence
- Less pressure on care, lower costs
A look in practice: rehab at home
This is how simple it can be at home: you do an exercise while smart LED modules track your movement and give you instant feedback. That makes rehab approachable and motivating — exactly what is needed, because today only 55% of patients stick to their exercise programme.
